B.Sc. Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is a medical profession in which patients are treated by physical means in-stead of medicines. Physical treatment consists of exercise or movement therapy; electrother-apy; correction of posture and mechanical/positional faults; and manual therapy including manipulations and mobiliza-tions. Physiotherapy is a treat-ment for the 24 out of 27 medi-cal specialties including: muscu-loskeletal, cardiopulmonary, neuromuscular, integumentary, and vestibular systems. Physio-therapists work with patients of all ages including pediatric, adults, and geriatric popula-tions. Additionally the field of physiotherapy is well developed in specializations such as sports physiotherapy; women’s health; prosthetics and orthotics; lym-phedema; and burns/wound care. Physiotherapy has a strong theoretical and research based foundation.

What do Physiotherapists do?

Physiotherapists play a very important role in the health and well being of patients. They evaluate and examine patients through a systematic process in which they perform special clini-cal tests and determine a physi-cal diagnosis. Based upon their assessment of patient’s impair-ments and diagnosis, physio-therapists make short and long term goals of treatment. They implement these treatment goals in a plan of care which will eliminate or reduce patient’s pain and physical impairments. Physiotherapists play vital roles in health promotion and pri-mary/secondary prevention of diseases. Physiotherapists work closely with all healthcare profes-sionals in providing care to the patients.

Physiotherapy at FMH

Physiotherapy education was started at FMH Institute of Al-lied Health Sciences (IAHS) in 2006. Currently we have full four years enrolled at our insti-tution, totaling 80 students.

FMH-IAHS is striving to provide a world class education to its students of physiotherapy that will also upgrade the aca-demic and professional stan-dards of physiotherapy care in Pakistan. It provides students with a unique learning environ-ment that meets the most ad-vanced and international stan-dards of academia. It is due to these excellent standard that FMH-IAHS Physiotherapy stu-dents have secured top positions at UHS.
